Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle Alexandra Rosé 1997: The main points:
Grand Siècle is the name given to the century of the Sun King, Louis XIV. The sun is a symbol of the height of the French way of life.
Grand Siècle is a prestige cuvée that is different from the other cuvées, a unique concept. It is the only prestige cuvée in Champagne that is based on the assemblage and not on a vintage.
Laurent-Perrier is convinced that it is possible to recreate the perfect oenological year, the one that brings together the ideal balance between its various organoleptic components, by constantly pushing the possibilities of assemblage.
Founded in 1812 by André Michel Pierlot, the Maison was named Veuve Laurent-Perrier when Mathilde Emilie Perrier, widow of Eugène Laurent, decided to combine the two family names to ensure its continued existence. Her daughter Eugénie Hortense Laurent inherited the house in 1925 and sold it in 1939 to Marie-Louise de Nonancourt, née Lanson.
Grand Siècle, the name created by Bernard de Nonancourt in 1959 for Laurent-Perrier's Prestige Cuvée, was created on the advice of Général Charles de Gaulle, who had chosen it as fitting. This is the epitome of the art of assemblage in Champagne, featuring predominantly Chardonnay plus Pinot Noir, Grands Crus and the assemblage of three exceptional vintages with complementary oenological profiles.
Grand Siècle stands for much more than rare vintages. It reconstructs the ideal vintage anew with each Itération. Since 1959, Laurent-Perrier has released 24 itérations of Grand Siècle, which perpetually continue the unique style of this champagne.
